Casting is not auditioning; it's not searching for undiscovered talent or evaluating an actor's ability or performance. Casting is putting a face to an abstract thought; filling in the blanks of an unclear description; transforming a flavor, idea or notion into a character. Good casting is not unusual features or quirky characters, nor is it the unexpected choice. Good casting goes unnoticed; good casting doesn't contaminate an idea — it transfers it effortlessly.
